At Cadenza we focus mainly on the aspects of learning music that supplement working on individual repertoire. As a musical term, a cadenza is an embellished selection that is set apart from the rest of the piece. Likewise Cadenza Summer Music Week strives to explore elements of music that are usually outside of regular lessons. Time will be spent on collaborative music making (orchestras, ensembles), experimenting with creative aspects of music (improvisation, composition), exploring different styles (contemporary, fiddle, jazz), and broadening musical experience (choir, music history, instrument making). Students will also be strengthening core skills (music theory, technique, sight reading, rhythm, body mapping) through group games and activities as well as taking part in individual lessons or masterclasses.
